FOR THE PLOPLANET?
Eco-Creativity and Funservancy
Endangered species and ecosystems need our help... but they also need us to balance our minds and hearts, as we are all intereconnected. We, as caretakers of the planet, must behave responsibly and protect life with an actual understanding of what life is about: expression of love, celebration of thriving, and healthy family fun.
Most animals are known to play, love, sing, dance and enjoy the moment.
Wildlife and habitat conservation efforts benefit greatly from the respect of those values: artistic and cultural creations are by far the best vehicles for natural-world education, conservancy fundraising and awareness campaigns. Frowning doomsday pessimism or sedative stacks of scientific data are much less likely to attract enough of the people, funds and youth we need to overcome our many ecological challenges.

WHAT WOULD PLOP FASHION LOOK LIKE?Plop Artists can express their philosophy through fashion - ranging from expressive daily clothing to a full spectrum of vestimentary styles demonstrated in fashion shows. An upcoming example of Plop Fashion shows would be called "Sunday Morning Fashion", where models strut the catwalk wearing improbable assortments of mismatched old clothes found in the bottom of their drawers or closets. The fashion statement, in this case, is that if your lover still finds you sexy wearing a mismatched Sunday morning mumbo-jumbo, it's a keeper, it's the love of your life. Fashion is usually the visual statement of a social behavior. Wearing an elaborate, creative costume in any social event that's not a costumed one is very Plop. Wearing two different colorful socks on a daily basis is also very Plop, especially if the correlation between their graphic prints tell a story. A famous source of Plop Fashion inspiration could be the "fancy hats" worn by attendees of the Queen of England's annual horse race derby. As an "over-tech" cultural statement, another inspiration for Plop Fashion comes from various designers who created apparel and make-up styles made to fool AI facial recognition into mistaking the wearer for an object. As an "off-tech" cultural statement, another counter-cultural inspiration for Plop fashion could be forest-dweller fashion, any fantasy-tribal attire expressing plants, stones, and other off-tech natural elements (for example, a skirt made of fern leaves).

WHAT WOULD PLOP THEATER FEEL LIKE?A multitude of urban areas seem to have one or more troupes specializing in street theater, impromptu theatrical performances of all kinds, plopped spontaneously on a random street corner. These are very much aligned with a Plop Arts approach. Similar to music, theater is an artform in which raw talent is often best represented through improvisation. Multiple improv competitions take place all over the world, an especially funny example being Quebec's "Ligue Nationale d'Improvisation" (National Improv League), mimicking the structure of a professional hockey league. Many theatrical performances dubbed as "experimental" can also be considered as an inspiration, where non-linear scripts seem to plop situations on stage in an abstract, dream-like storyline. A relevant suggestion for Plop actors would be to install a video projector on any random urban location, projecting video "environments" from a sidewalk up a building wall, and performing a theatrical "busking" performance within the projected pop-up universe. As an "over-tech" cultural statement, theatrical performances may happen randomly in a public crowd expressing the damaging consequences of our neurotic addiction to technology - for example, overacting the weird twitches of a phone-obsessed commuter while inside a public transit crowded with cellphone-gazing passengers. As an "off-tech" cultural statement, another counter-cultural inspiration for Plop theater could be "Plop LARPing". Generally associated with historical costumed re-enactment or medieval fantasy in the forest, LARP (Live Action Role Playing) could be re-invented with a much more elastic conceptual context - surreal LARP, non-linear improv LARP, animal-world LARP... the imagination is the limit, no technology needed!

WHAT WOULD PLOP SPORTS ENTERTAINMENT BE LIKE?Conceived as a humorous or unusual creative performance while mocking an existing sports-league structure, Plop Sports Entertainment is intended as a far-out demonstration of how the Plop Arts approach may be applied beyond the artistic realms. An imaginary example could be the "Mexican Sumo Mud Wrestling Championship", complete with a muddy ring, champion's belt and fight announcer. Competing wrestlers, dressed in inflatable sumo bodies and wearing a unique Mexican mask, would bounce one another on slippery mud in front of a cheering crowd. Conceived as a video show, it would come with play-by-play and color commentary, funny fake TV advertisements, and of course a comical smack-talk exchange before each fight. Similar to American wrestling, the winner is predetermined and each wrestler has a defined thematic personality, bringing cheesy intrigues through their animosity. We, Plop artists, unfortunately don't have time for this elegant concept, but invite you to gather friends in your local community to pursue such a glorious project. Send us your videos and they might be displayed in all our communication channels. Email us if you wish to develop this grandiose endeavor, and we'll do our best to help (and since we gave you the idea, we'll ask that a giant "ploparts.com" advertisement be visible in your video).

WHAT WOULD PLOP MUSIC SOUND LIKE?Music potentially identified as "Plop Music" has been around since times immemorial. It is what musicians call a "music jam", an individual or collective improvisation resulting from the creative feeling of the moment. Most musical genres have a sub-genre labeled "experimental". A wide variety of those artists could be considered as an inspiration for Plop Music. The free-flowing acceptance of improvisation found in most jazz genres is also a possible precursor to Plop Music. Various artists have known successful careers by plopping different genres, creative humor and unexpected experiments together - famous examples could be Frank Zappa or Shpongle. Another inspiration for Plop Music scenes could be the underground rave scene, where a dancefloor may be plopped in an unlikely location, DJs plop rhythms of various genres and the audience sports a very eclectic assortment of styles and behaviors. As an "over-tech" cultural statement, the cultural statement made by AI-engineered music may also serve as an inspiration for future Plop Music. A famous example would be Dadabots, the 24-hour YouTube channel playing AI-generated death-metal music. As an "off-tech" cultural statement, another counter-cultural inspiration for Plop musicians could be any kind of free-form, organic, acoustic, unplugged music jam using traditional instruments... or even better: unique invented instruments, hand-crafted from naturally-sourced materials.

WHAT WOULD PLOP SCULPTURE LOOK LIKE?The vast majority of contemporary sculptors are extremely aligned with the Plop Arts approach, itself inspired from Marcel Duchamp's readymades from the 1920's. Taking an object and plopping it in an artistic context, calling it "art", goes deep to the primordial essence of Plop Art's conceptual proposition. The original meaning of the words "Plop Art" was coined in the 1970's. Here is the Wikipedia entry for Plop Art, which inspired the re-appropriation of the term: "Plop art (or Plonk art) is a pejorative slang term for public art (usually large, abstract, modernist or contemporary sculpture) made for government or corporate plazas, spaces in front of office buildings, skyscraper atriums, parks, and other public venues. The term connotes that the work is unattractive or inappropriate to its surroundings—that is, it has been thoughtlessly "plopped" where it lies. Plop art is a play on the term pop art. The term was coined by architect James Wines in a 1970 essay, Public Art–Private Art, published in Art in America. The term has been taken up by others, including British sculptor Rachel Whiteread."

WHAT WOULD PLOP COMICS LOOK LIKE?By definition, we could argue that all comics and cartoons are, have been, and will ever be Plop Art. They are plopped on a blank page with nearly instant, unlimited access to any creative realms the imagination can conceive. Comics and cartoons are arguably the most powerful artform that ever existed. Disney became one of the most powerful corporations on Earth. Long after his death, Charles Schulz (Charlie Brown, Snoopy, etc) is listed as one of the highest-grossing artists every year. After three decades of success, the cultural influence of The Simpsons on North American society is beyond measure. In recent times, comics superheroes have dominated Hollywood with mastodon box-office revenue. The blend of simplified production and viral popular success are hard to match by any other artform. Among hundreds of hilarious inspirations from the world of comics and cartoons, an appropriately-named example would be a DC Comics magazine published in the 1970s called (you guessed it!) PLOP! Magazine.

WHAT WOULD PLOP CINEMA LOOK LIKE?The possibilities of Plop Cinema are endless, as multiple artforms are blended to create a deep psychological experience. Many movies have been using very creative, non-linear storylines to provide an unexpected understanding of its meaning - too many to be listed here. Inspirational famous directors such as David Lynch and the early surreal works of Luis Bunuel are worth mentioning, among others. As an "over-tech" cultural statement, in the near future, famous actors and actresses may unwillingly be plopped within experimental Plop Cinema masterpieces, using ever-evolving "deepfake" technology. (Plop movie producers should remain respectful and avoid legal consequences.) As an "off-tech" cultural statement, another counter-cultural inspiration for Plop cinema could be older vintage production methods, such as stop-motion clay animation.

WHAT WOULD PLOP POETRY AND LITERATURE BE LIKE?As an obvious "over-tech" cultural statement, discussed in the Plop Art Manifesto, using AI neural-network technologies to generate full bodies of text from snippets of meaning may yield a substantial quantity of surprising Plop Poety and Literature - a dangerous yet promising gift for the future of human consciousness. As an "off-tech" cultural statement, another inspiration for Plop literature could be the ageless practice of "automatic writing", where an author experiences a trance-like, rapid-fire thoughtful state - while holding a pen - to let words flow spontaneously on paper without any mental filters or inhibition. Various works from the Surrealist and Dada artistic movements, especially those movements' early days in France, may be cited as sources of inspiration. Alfred Jarry's hilarious 'Pataphysique mock-science would be a relevant example. Another obscure example worthy of mention, from the rich Quebec culture, would be the masterpiece "Lapôcalypsô" from Raoul Duguay. An appropriate direction for Plop writers and poets could be the creation of new languages - creating new words, grammar and syntax for purely artistic purposes.
