WHY PLOP ART?
Philosophy and Manifesto
Plop Art is more than meets the eye.
Plop Art is a conceptual framework, beyond the simple exercise of making digital art - its artwork includes a more elaborate philosophical discourse. Each artwork is interconnected to a unique creative perspective on its place through art history, on the economics of art, on environmental action, on community building, on the use of new technologies by artists.
For starters, Plop Art's message has three surface-level aspects we can integrate in our life: its basic psychology, its perception of art, and its creative ambition.
What about its basic psychology? The Plop Art Manifesto explains the new usage of the term "Plop", by reverse-psychology, in Article 0: The primordial, essential philosophy at the root of Plop Art is to be present, mindful, grateful and caring. Every moment in your life can be lived with care and awareness... unless you're just "plopping it".
In essence, are we living each moment to the fullest or are we just "plopping around"? We can remember this feel-good psycho-pop reminder, and use it as an awareness switch.
What about its perception of art? The word "Plop" can now be used for discernment. Originally an insult aimed at boring institutional art, the new Plop Art movement labels as "Plop" upcoming artworks that rely too heavily on technology (such as AI) with very little effort, creativity or heartfelt depth. If the world adopts this new Plop label, it will empower the deep-thinking, self-discovering, meaningful, skilled and/or hard-working artists that are proud of NOT being Plop. It will protect traditional artists from technological dilution, but also establish Plop Art as an experimental fusion between fake and real creative depth.
In essence, whenever we see non-Plop artists of any skill level putting some thought, intent and effort in a work of art, we'll recognize them as such. And those artists may also try to experiment with "plopping" their craft, as a counter-cultural statement or for the acquisition of improvisation, intuition, and immediacy skills.
What about its creative ambition? The Plop Art cultural philosophy encourages a constant drive to infuse creativity through all we do. Because our society is built on layer upon layer of engineered technology, engineered psychology, and engineered emotions, our lives are becoming fully engineered by our social context. Only creativity, applied at every moment, may allow us to re-engineer the flow of our existence and escape robotization. The Plop Art approach of re-inventing whatever we can may be our last chance.
At a deeper level, the Plop Art Manifesto offers insight on various topics meant to provoke questioning of the so-called reality we take for granted. Plop Art involves itself in the re-invention of a new artistic movement, a new art market, a new approach to nature conservancy, a new aspect of local communities, a new relationship to modern technologies. The reality of the future is not the one we could wish for, expect or predict, it is the one we will create for ourselves, individually and collectively.
